Seasons Greetings, one and all.....ahh, the iconic kiwi summer has rolled around again and, with it, the arrival of seasonal madness syndrome, also known as Christmas shopping (or, to many of the masculine persuasion - "whispering death"). For the lucky ones, summer may also bring a nice little reccy away, possibly to far away climes involving sand, surf & sun (not necessarily in that order nor usually in equal measure unfortunately). Perhaps your trip away involves cramming the vehicle de rigueur with kids, partner, pressies (if you're heading out before the tubby red-bedecked bloke arrives), pets, gear, food/drink & just maybe (especially if you've been really, really good) your favourite steed. Your bike on a trip like this usually represents your ticket to sanity, a sneaky 2-hr sortie into the sanctuary of the forest, a leisurely roll around the skatepark, flicking out a casual tail-whip or two or a tarmac mission, trying to avoid potholes & counting the number of tar bubbles you manage to burst.. ....but the arrival of summer may not bring any significant change in your routine - in which case you fall into the two "other" categories like a lot of us, namely the "worker-bees" - greasing the wheels of industry, beavering away while the sun shines, pining for statutory holidays & fine, fun-filled weekends or the "limpets" - time off, but no plans to join the highway hordes of lemmings, preferring to stick to the comforts of your local 'hood, venturing out only as far as necessary or as often as funding allows.

As always, our friendly online staff will be around, making sure any last minute acquisitions are packed & despatched, catching the reindeer express in time for the frantic & ritual destruction of carefully selected & over-priced Christmas wrap....it never seems quite right that something that starts out as a carefully constructed piece de resistance can be reduced to a pile of ripped rubbish quite so quickly does it?

So if you're looking to part with some hard-earned folding stuff clogging up your wallet/bank balance, and need to purchase a gift for the object of your affection/a member of your family/a riding buddy or just want to reward yourself for being so fiscally diligent throughout the year, we've highlighted several items in this newsletter that may tickle your fancy. It's important to note that if you need something to be delivered before Christmas we recommend we have your order no later than 22nd December. Assuming the item is in stock & the couriers aren't partying it up large at the depot, we should be able to get it to you in time, but as there are several factors in play, no guarantees can be made. Like Baden-Powell opined to the boy scouts back in the day - be prepared.

So from all of us here @ Burkes Cycles, we would like to say a big "thank you" for all your custom throughout the year and wish you all a safe & merry yuletide.

The team @ Burkes Cycles

Shimano XTR Disc Brake - Trail
Compromise - it's a dirty word. Sick of disc brakes that promise everything, yet deliver a bit of this & a bit of that? Something that offers great modulation but naff all power?...or the reverse? The new XTR disc brake system is available in two models - one for the greyhounds & the other for the clydesdales. The XTR Trail version ramps up the stopping power at a stunning 125% of the previous model but somehow manages to maintain it's magical modulation - one-fingered salutes anyone? .....check online »

Cult Mind Control Stem
A lot of stems look like rejected school metal-working projects, you know - the ones you never took home for fear of disappointing the oldies! Cult's Mind Control stem has taken an opposite approach to most manufacturers and created a stem tailored to the shape required & then focused on machining the inside of the stem (rather than the outside). This approach maintains the stem's strength & integrity and the result is a svelte symphony of style .....check online »
